Frequently asked questions
How soon can a pregnancy be confirmed?
A urine pregnancy test usually turns positive about two weeks after conception. A beta-hCG blood test can detect a pregnancy earlier, from about 8 to 10 days after conception. In early pregnancy the beta-hCG level roughly doubles every two to three days, so a repeat test can confirm that a pregnancy is progressing.
What scans will I have during pregnancy?
Dr Govender does an early scan to confirm the pregnancy, and growth scans later in pregnancy if needed. Your obstetrician arranges the other scans, which usually include:
- a dating scan
- the 12-week scan
