A full medical check-up with Dr Derran M Govender in Durban North looks beyond whether you’re sick today. It finds problems early, often before symptoms start, and shows where your health can be improved. Dr Govender then helps you get the results into the optimal range.
What a full check-up includes
- a detailed medical history and physical examination
- blood pressure, weight, BMI and waist measurement
- blood tests: lipid profile, C-peptide, fasting glucose, kidney function, liver function, thyroid function and a full blood count
- a urine test
- an ECG
- screening for your age and sex, such as a PSA test or a Pap smear
Dr Govender then goes through your results with you and agrees a plan to improve them.
Who should have a check-up, and how often
Every adult benefits from a full check-up, even if you feel well. Many conditions, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and early insulin resistance, cause no symptoms for years.
Most adults should have a check-up once a year. Dr Govender may recommend more frequent reviews if your results need work or if you have a family history of heart disease or diabetes.
For information about annual flu vaccination, see the separate service page. Vaccination is separate from the check-up; contact the practice for fees.
